Vít Gvoždiak - All that is said
The work of H. P. Grice can be considered a key contribution to the theory of utterance meaning and the pragmatics of communication. The paper will deal mainly with the understanding of "what is said" as a component of non-natural meaning and closely related to the conventional meaning of the words (sentence), but not identical with it. The presentation will address (i) basic (post-gricean) positions on the concept of "what is said" and (ii) confront them with a specific problem in the field of non-ideal philosophy of language (Stanley - Beaver 2019), the dogwhistle phenomenon (Saul 2018).
The event is organised as a part of series of lectures Trattenbach - Jilská.
