This book examines the function of the Book of Parables (1 Enoch 37-71) in its ancient context. The fi rst part of the volume addresses essential introductory issues, including the textual and redactional history of the Book of Parables, its historical setting, literary features, and the communicative strategies employed by its author. The second part argues that the Book of Parables constructs a symbolic universe that functions as a complex form of legitimation for an audience whose shared social reality is destabilized by experiences of oppression. At the center of this crisis lies a theological problem of justice, as the persecution of the righteous contradicts deeply held expectations of divine protection and blessing. The study interprets the Book of Parables as a body of revealed knowledge that seeks to re-establish the credibility of this threatened social reality. Through a sequence of visionary revelations, the text presents an eschatological reversal of fates as part of God’s eternal plan, while cosmological, messianological, and mythic traditions are integrated as essential strategies of legitimation. Together, these elements lend authority to the message and its messenger, enabling the audience to reconcile their lived experience with the conviction that God remains just and decisively on the side of the righteous.

Kniha pojednává o neprobádané a v českém kontextu dosud téměř neznámé oblasti Leibnizových matematických studií, o alternativní geometrii zvané analysis situs. Ať už bývá považována za pouhou odnož jeho projektu formalizovaného jazyka, tzv. univerzální charakteristiky, či přímo za její jedinou dokončenou složku, nebo jsou mu přisuzovány úplně jiné původní záměry, tato kniha si klade za cíl vystopovat její možné vlivy speciálně na Leibnizovo pozdní dílo, kdy se u příležitosti korespondence se Samuelem Clarkem ocitla pod palbou kritiky mimo jiné i newtonovská teorie prostoru. Je-li tedy vůbec možné z Leibnizových náznaků, polemik a protikladných vyjádření vypreparovat jeho vlastní teorii prostoru, pak předkládaná kniha objasňuje, jakým způsobem k tomu přispívá právě zohlednění analysis situs. 

Emperor Otto I the Great made history in the Holy Roman Empire with a significant dynastic achievement: in 967, he persuaded the pope to crown his son co-emperor in Rome. Two centuries later, another renowned emperor, Frederick Barbarossa, attempted a similar feat, negotiating with four different popes for the coronation of his descendant, but ultimately failed. A lesser-known parallel can be found in the life of Emperor Charles IV of the Luxembourg dynasty in the fourteenth century. After the Papal Curia returned to Rome from Avignon in early 1377, Charles made concerted efforts in Italy, France, and Germany to secure the imperial coronation of his son, Wenceslas. However, this bold ambition coincided with an unprecedented crisis in relations between the ‟French” cardinals and the newly elected Italian pope, Urban VI. Recognizing that the final chapter of Charles IV’s biography is deeply intertwined with the early history of the Great Western Schism offers a fresh perspective on a subject that has long captivated international scholarship.

Charles IV, King of Bohemia and Holy Roman Emperor, has been called “one of the most learned and diplomatically skillful sovereigns” of the fourteenth century. Having moved the seat of the Holy Roman Empire to Prague and founding the first university in Central Europe, Charles IV is a towering figure in Czech history and a crucial character in the story of medieval Europe.
Recent research, especially in art history, has tended to present Charles IV in a purely positive, unblemished light: viewing him and his imperial court as the engine behind a flourishing of culture in the region. This book views Charles IV through a more critical lens, examining the careful construction that went into the way he presented himself, winning over people of the time and even today, as well as the most characteristic manifestations of Charles’ execution of royal power.

The first part of the book offers a chronological description of Charles’ life within the broader context of the times and the House of Luxembourg. The second part provides a close look into Charles IV’s style of rule while focusing on phenomena that reveal his personal conception of power and how it was wielded.

Stávat se jiným. Studie k současné fenomenologii ve Francii je současně systematická i historická fenomenologická studie. Jejím cílem je – prostřednictvím volby systematického filosofického problému dění existence jako hlavního tématu – na pozadí jediného fenomenologického pole představit a konfrontovat pět význačných představitelů současné fenomenologie ve Francii: Henriho Maldineye, Clauda Romana, Jeana-Luca Mariona, Renauda Barbarase a Marca Richira. Všechny rysy tohoto fenomenálního pole jsou poté představeny synteticky, díky čemuž vyvstanou některé nové úkoly pro současnou fenomenologickou analýzu, a to včetně problému, který byl prvořadý pro Husserla: problému fenomenologické metaetiky či aplikované fenomenologie. Ta je nakonec ilustrována v podobě jedné možné ekofenomenologie, tj. s ohledem na jednu z výzev současného myšlení, jíž je ekologická krize.

Monografie předkládá v českém prostředí dosud chybějící komplexní přehled o platónském bádání od konce 17. století po současné trendy, včetně detailních rozborů rozhodujících textů klíčových autorů, relevantních pro studovanou problematiku. Součástí je i v mezinárodním měřítku výjimečný přehled o domácí, poměrně bohatě zastoupené platónské scéně, která je představena v návaznosti na schématické rozdělení hlavních tendencí v bádání mezinárodním. Autorovým hlediskem při výkladu celého oboru jsou hermeneutická východiska jednotlivých škol a společné momenty v metodologii každého z interpretů. 

Kniha má dvě hlavní části: první představuje novodobé bádání cca do roku 2000 a druhá se pak zaměřuje na hermeneutická východiska a hlavní trendy u současných badatelů. Součástí této druhé části je i sám autor, jeho sebereflexe jakožto platónského interpreta i jeho snaha nabídnout čtenáři možné východisko z hlavních obtíží platónského bádání. Proto je značná pozornost věnována analýze velmi rozšířeného platónského perspektivismu. Právě na jeho základě navrhuje Boháček svůj molekulární perspektivismus jako určitý pokus zohlednit přínos moderního bádání a zároveň pokračovat v současné perspektivistické metodologii.

Kniha editora Petra Kužela přináší první reprezentativní výbor textů filosofa Lubomíra Sochora (1925–1986). Shrnuje texty z různých období jeho tvůrčí činnosti a nabízí průřez takřka všemi tématy, jimiž se tento významný, ale nedoceněný českých myslitel zabýval. Vedle dříve publikovaných studií či esejů jsou do přítomného svazku zařazeny texty, které buď dosud nevyšly tiskem (zpravidla kvůli zásahům tehdejší cenzury), anebo byly publikovány pouze v exilových periodikách či zahraničních odborných publikacích, a jsou tedy obtížně dostupné. Každý z těchto textů dosvědčuje Sochorův otevřený a nedogmatický přístup k marxismu. Jeho analýzy různých, v dějinách marxismu samého často potlačovaných či opomíjených marxistických koncepcí, stejně jako Sochorova pronikavá kritika tzv. „reálného socialismu“ jsou cenným příspěvkem k historii emancipačního myšlení. Dokazují, že zdánlivě zapomenuté či marginalizované myšlenky mohou inspirovat a obohacovat soudobou i budoucí kritickou teorii společnosti.

Zatímco průmyslové společnosti počátku 20. století produkovaly standardizované výrobky, města, organizace a subjekty, v našich pozdně moderních společnostech si ceníme výjimečnosti: jedinečných předmětů, zážitků, míst, jednotlivců, událostí a komunit. Autor zkoumá příčiny, struktury a důsledky takové společnosti singularit, v níž podle něj nyní žijeme. Ta systematicky produkuje nerovnost: trhy jsou založeny na logice vítěz bere vše, pracovní místa jsou polarizována, venkovské regiony zanedbávány a tradiční střední třída je odcizena. Dalším důsledkem singularizace je pak rozmach populismu a agresivního nacionalismu.

Emerging from the twin shadows of neoliberalism and postmodernism, Michael Hauser paints our current historical moment as an interregnum, born of but departing from those two towering modes of late 20th-century culture. Seen in this light, the preoccupation of populism, identity politics, hybrid wars and other contemporary phenomena can be seen as the result of the disintegration of neoliberal agendas and postmodernist sensibilities.

Drawing together a vast range of thinkers and theoretical models, from Gramsci to Jameson, Hauser traces the reasons for the decline and demise of the grand narratives of the twentieth century and the ideologies that replaced them. His explanation of the foundational ‘epicycloid’ and disintegrative ‘elliptical’ stages of political movements then lays the ground for a deep engagement with Alain Badiou, understanding his ‘transitory ontology’ as a philosophical response to our interregnum. By expanding and unpicking Badiou’s thoughts on mathematics, politics, art, love, and the conditions of doing philosophy, we can imagine a point beyond the present moment in history.
