titulka03

We are the largest non-university research institution within the Czech Academy of Sciences dedicated to the humanities and social sciences.
We see it as our mission to engage both the academic community and the general public in discussions on matters of public interest. We comment on current social issues and actively promote the development of critical thinking.

Our research covers a wide range of topics in philosophy, its history, and related fields in the humanities—such as classical and medieval studies, Comeniology, philosophy of science, and the social sciences. Given philosophy’s unique role in human knowledge, communicating its nature to a broader audience presents a meaningful challenge that we embrace.

Each year, we organize, co-organize, or provide expert support for educational and outreach events aimed at students and the publicWe collaborate with both universities and secondary schools.

As part of our efforts to enrich secondary school education, schools are welcome to invite our researchers to deliver lectures on specific topics. We also offer professional development sessions for teachers, particularly in collaboration with the Association of Social Studies and Civics Teachers (Občankáři). Secondary school students can also take part in internships with us through the Open Science program (Otevřená věda).
