Investigator: doc. PhDr. Martin Musílek Ph.D.

Provider: Czech Science Foundation

Duration: 2025-2027

Rented housing is often overlooked in medieval and early modern studies, yet it plays a key role in understanding the social structure of urban populations of the time. The project will focus on the analysis of rented housing in Prague and its surroundings from the Middle Ages up to the beginning of the Thirty Years’ War (1618), using archival, archaeological, and building-historical sources.

The aim of the project is to identify and compare findings with similar research from other cities abroad, where these topics have already been explored and published. The case of Prague may serve as comparative material for international scholars. The project’s results will be published both independently and as part of two academic publications in Czech and English.
