akub Jauernig’s project will focus on the role of historically attributed coats of arms in medieval representation and their significance for national narratives. A key source will be a theoretical treatise on heraldry that addresses propaganda during conflicts such as the Hundred Years’ War. The project will examine the connection between historiographical sources and texts on heraldic theory to demonstrate how stories of national origins were reflected in visual representations such as coats of arms.
