Investigator: Elías Fuentes Guillén, Ph.D.

Provider: Czech Science Foundation

Programme: Junior Star

Duration: 2023-2027

The project aims to understand the development of mathematics in Prague in the first half of the 19th century, with particular emphasis on the motivations and socio-institutional factors shaping both established practices and the emergence of new knowledge. It is based on a case study of the University of Prague and Bernard Bolzano, whose specific historical position allows these processes to be examined within the broader context of European mathematics. At the same time, the project proposes a methodological approach to studying the dynamics of mathematics by integrating perspectives from the history of mathematics and mathematics education, the philosophy of mathematical practice, studies of mathematical cultures, and textual studies.
