Investigator: Mgr. Petr Dvořák, Ph.D.

Provider: Archive

Programme: Standard

Duration: 2023-2025

The mathematician, philosopher, and theologian Juan Caramuel y Lobkowitz significantly expanded Aristotelian logic, including its relational and moral (deontic) dimensions. While his relational logic has been studied, his account of moral argumentation remains largely unexplored.

The project focuses on Caramuel’s deontic logic within the framework of probabilism, a moral-theological theory of decision-making under uncertainty. Its aim is to analyse this part of his work and clarify its theoretical background and significance.
