Medieval Note-taking and Notebooks: Results of the ERC NOTA Project and Further Research Questions
Abstract
The NOTA (Note-Taking and Notebooks as Channels of Medieval Academic Dissemination across Europe) project was selected for funding in the 2020 ERC Starting Grant competition. It proposed to study several notebooks pertaining to 14th- and 15th-century scholars from Europe and analyse their sources, note-taking practices, and academic backgrounds. The hypothesis was that such a study would reveal an unexplored dimension of life within medieval universities. In this presentation, I will highlight key results of the project and formulate the new research questions that have emerged from these findings.
This event is a part of a project that has received funding from the European Research Council (ERC) under the Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme (Grant agreement No. 949710). The project ACADEMIA: Reconstructing Late Medieval Quests for Knowledge: Quodlibetal Debates as Precursors of Modern Academic Practice is carried out at the Institute of Philosophy of the Czech Academy of Sciences.
