Organized by the Institute of Philosophy, Czech Academy of Sciences & Carl Stumpf Society Dortmund

Detailed information

Workshop will be held in Geman language with listening sessions and supplementary lectures.

Experiencing Tonpsychologie Through Listening
The listening experiments in Carl Stumpf’s Tonpsychologie

The workshop builds thematically on the 8th Annual Conference of the Carl Stumpf Society, which took place in 2018 at the same venue. At that conference, we worked toward a re-evaluation/reappraisal prompted by the English translation of Tonpsychologie.

Stumpf investigates the perception of pitch by means of a wide range of listening experiments, which he describes in Tonpsychologie. In the workshop, we want to replicate selected experiments as examples and compare our own listening perceptions with the observations reported by Stumpf.

The stimuli will be generated in advance using audio software and will be presented during the workshop either via loudspeakers or via headphones. Please bring a playback device with high-quality sound reproduction and a pair of headphones.

The listening sessions will be framed by additional lectures.
