From Ancient Egypt to Modern Fragrance Chemistry: International Workshop
Organized by the Alchemies of Scent Project, Department for the Study of Ancient and Medieval Thought, Institute of Philosophy, CAS.
Detailed information
The Alchemies of Scent project is hosting Philip Kraft and Johannes Panten, leading fragrance chemists from Symrise (Germany), for a two-day visit to Prague on October 29-30. On Wednesday, October 29, Kraft and Panten will present a seminar at the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry exploring the chemistry of modern perfumery.
On Thursday, October 30, they will participate in an interdisciplinary workshop examining the ancient Greco-Egyptian perfumes recreated by the Alchemies of Scent team. The workshop brings together perfumers, botanists, chemists, historians, and scent enthusiasts to smell the historical fragrances and discuss their relevance for understanding ancient history and contemporary chemistry and perfumery. The event is supported by the Czech Science Foundation, the Society for the History of Alchemy and Chemistry, and the IOCB Tech Foundation. It forms part of the documentary development for Invisible Alchemy: The Paradox of Past Scents.
